National Scholastic Art & Writing Competition:  National level winners!

On March 17, 2014, Seniors Kelly Brant (LHS) and Krista Erlandson (LHS) won National Silver Medals for their photographs submitted to the 2014 National Scholastic Art & Writing Competition.  The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the longest running and most prestigious scholarship competition, as well as the largest source of scholarships, for creative teenagers in grades 7-12 in the United States.  This year, tens of thousands of pieces from across the country were judged regionally, and Gold Medal winners from the regional level were judged on the national level in 16 different art media categories (http://www.artandwriting.org/).
Kelly’s piece “Longing” and Krista’s piece “Who Is Who” were entered in the Photography category.  The Scholastic National Silver Medal is one of the highest levels of achievement on the national level.  Kelly and Krista have both earned monetary scholarships for their submissions.  They are invited to receive their medals at an Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 6, 2014.  Congratulations ladies!
Congratulations to ALL of our District 128 artists who participated this year in submitting their artwork for judging in this large-scale competition.  Many of our artists were recognized at the regional level in February, and we are proud of you all!

Illinois High School Regional Art Exhibition

On Saturday March 8, the Illinois High School Regional Art Exhibition welcomed the work of 90 high school senior portfolio winners at Gallery 400 in downtown Chicago.
In attendance were Libertyville High School Seniors Kelly Brant and Alyssa Tazzioli, who were recognized as recipients of three of these photography scholarships.  Kelly received a full tuition renewable waiver for her freshman year at Illinois State University, which is where she will attend this coming fall semester.  Alyssa Tazzioli received two scholarship offers, one from University of Wisconsin at Madison and one from Illinois State University.  She is still processing her college decision.  Congratulations to our Libertyville senior art students on their much deserved art scholarships!

On Sunday February 23, 2014, at the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago, IL, 5 art students from Libertyville High School and 5 art students from Vernon Hills High School participated in the reception of their artwork with over 350 students from 65 Chicago-area high schools.  An estimated 2,000 attendees viewed 350 pieces of outstanding high school artwork in five categories, including Drawing, Painting, Graphic Design, Photography, and Sculpture. Honorable mentions, and first, second, and third place prizes were awarded in each category, as well as Best in Show for each category.
Congratulations to sophomore Bennett Fuhrman of Libertyville High School.  His digital photograph “Breathe” won a first place gold ribbon at the exhibition, which was accompanied by a $300 check and a $100 supply gift certificate.
LHS Seniors Kelly Brant an Alyssa Tazzioli were also recognized as recipients of senior portfolio scholarships at the exhibition.  Several students from Vernon Hills High School made the journey together to the south-west side art center and visited numerous galleries and artists’ studio spaces at the center while at the exhibition.  The experience was rewarding for our district’s artists, and it was an honor to view their work displayed with the best-of-the-best in Chicago-area high school artwork.  Congratulations Artists!!
